Drip Distribution Septic System

Prevent wastewater from being discharged into the soil without being treated first. The Drip Distribution Septic System is applicable for most sites including clay soils, shallow soils, and sites with moderately saturated conditions since this design does not need a very deep underground.

ATU Spray System

Aerobic Treatment Units differ from standard septic systems in such a way that they use natural processes to treat wastewater. ATUs decompose organic solids quickly, therefore making the wastewater leaving the system cleaner. ATUs are more appropriate in environmentally sensitive areas or locations that are less suitable for conventional or gravity flow septic systems, such as inappropriate soil conditions where the water table is too high to allow the drain field to operate effectively.

Conventional Septic System

This is the simplest type of septic system which consists of two major components: the septic tank and the drain field. Conventional Septic System needs low maintenance and cost of operation and does not require electricity to work.

Leeching Chamber Septic System

Leaching chambers can be used in either conventional or aerobic septic systems. This design is advantageous because it features ease of installation, easy inspection of chambers, eliminates the need for gravel, and can extend the life of a drain field by allowing for the lower intrusion of soil and silt.

Mound System

The mound system enables the use of land that would otherwise be unsuitable for in-ground or at-grade onsite systems. If care is observed, construction damage can be minimized since there is little excavation required in the mound area. This is also useful since it can be utilized in most climates.

Which septic system do you need?

When traditional sewage is unavailable, a septic tank is the best alternative. However, there is an alternative option that is less frequently discussed, and that is an ATU. Which is preferable for you? The benefits and drawbacks of each will be listed below to help you decide which is best for you.

ATU Tank System

Many of you may be wondering, "What are ATU Systems?" ATU is an abbreviation for "Aerobic Treatment Unit." ATU systems are an alternative to septic systems. An aerobic treatment unit prepares wastewater by introducing more oxygen into it. The goal is to break down matter, reduce bacteria, and convert nutrients into your system. ATU systems are designed to use less energy. They are also designed to reduce solid waste and bacteria faster than a septic tank. In short, opting for an aerobic treatment system is more environmentally friendly, faster, and more energy efficient. ATU systems, on the other hand, are more expensive and impose additional challenges regarding installation when compared to traditional septic systems.

Septic Tank System

There are various advantages and disadvantages to using a traditional septic system. Septic tanks are less expensive and less difficult to install. It is not necessary to perform routine maintenance. However, they are not as environmentally friendly as ATU Systems. They take up space and degrade over time.

Regarding Design

Almost all OSSFs (onsite sewage facilities) require a county permit before any construction, installation, repair, extension, or other alteration. Any work on an OSSF must be done by a licensed installer or the homeowner directly. Anyone who is paid for any part of the process must be licensed by the state.
1. Two profile holes are required to be excavated at opposite ends of the proposed
excavation area (drain field). The two profile holes are typically excavated about 75 feet away from each other. These holes are excavated down to a depth of 60 inches or cease excavating when encountering solid / hard rock (restrictive rock horizon). The two profile holes should be a minimum of 12 inches x 12 inches. We can recomend qualified septic installers to excavate your profile holes and help develop your project.
A survey or subdivision plat is required showing all property lines and their dimensions.

To design a septic system for your property, the designer will need a copy of the property's survey or plat.
3. A site plan is needed showing all proposed surface improvements (house, driveway, well, waterline, etc.). The site plan does not have to be architecturally drawn. The site plan can be hand-drawn.

Permitting Process

Almost all OSSFs (onsite sewage facilities) require a county permit before any construction, installation, repair, extension, or other alteration. Any work on an OSSF must be done by a licensed installer or the homeowner directly. Anyone who is paid for any part of the process must be licensed by the state.
1. Proof of ownership is required in the form of a warranty deed. You would have received a copy of the deed in your closing documents.
A survey or subdivision plat is required showing all property lines and their dimensions.

To design a septic system for your property, the designer will need a copy of the property's survey or plat.
3. ATU REQUIREMENT (if applicable). An affidavit must be filed at the County Clerk’s
Office for a septic system requiring a maintenance contract. This is typically for an Aerobic Spray and Aerobic Drip systems.
In addition to the property survey or plat, two backhoe holes must be excavated at opposite ends of the proposed disposal area (drain field / leach field) to determine the soil characteristics.
4. Kevin Moore Septic will apply for the septic permit. Once the application has been
processed, the permitting agency will issue permitting fees that will be paid by the
property owner.
At that point, a licensed site evaluator will need to assess local conditions and design your OSSF.
This site evaluator will also provide you with the design specifications for your system.
